I just assumed that one reason why we are here is because we like Zack's character on "Bones"... So I'm rather curious to know why? We might put just 1 reason in each post and see with how many we come up eventually... I'll start: I like Zack because he has the intelligence of a genius but also the innocence of a child...and the contrast makes him soo adorable Manu

Let's see, I like Zack because he's intelligent, funny, and extremely adorable. I also love how he interacts with Booth.

i've been trying to think of how to word this but I don't know how to explain why I like him lmao. I think what Manu said is part of it, and I think I like him because you can see that there's more to him than you actually get to see on the show. If that makes any sense? lmao this is why it has taken me so long to reply to this thread! haha

I understand. Yes i think so
It's really whats more inside him that you DON'T see on the show
And that inner him is also up to much interpretation.
lol so it's so hard to say!!!

haha i know i've been trying and trying to think of how to word it lmao. I think eric does a very good job with the character, because you can see that there is more to him, he's like a real person whereas sometimes in TV shows characters are more 'what you see is what you get' and that really doesn't [to me] leave much space for the audience's own interpretation. Like, we don't get a million and one explanations as to why Zack acts the way he acts and so on, but every now and then we get glimses [like when he told Jack how he's always trying to look taller] that he's a lot more observant than the rest of the characters give him credit for. And he's always showing these things, but you just have to look a little harder to see rather than having like, say - i don't know a TV show where they're always flashing back to the characters past to explain the way they are and to blatantly shove everything into your face, Zack is far more subtle and far more real. Even if he's super intelligent. lmao. I also like the fact that while Zack acts like he's autistic [and the shows creator has said he probably has aspergers syndrome] they never say anything on the show about that, rather Zack is just Zack, and we don't need them spoonfeeding us reasons as to why he is Zack, we can see ourselves from the way he acts on his own and the way he interacts with other people and so on. ah i'm rambling.

Lizzy i do understand what you mean. Definitely Eric's portrait of Zack gives so much to the character....he is doing a great job. I've only seen Season 1 and part of Season 2 and I really enjoy every single episode in which Zack has a big part. He is funny, cute, super-smart, slightly alien, enthusiastic... In less words...GREAT! BTW...I don't think he has Aspergen's...he just...lives on Zack's planet...not always near to Earth. And luckily for us we are trapped in his gravitational orbit manu

I'm glad you understand what I'm trying to say! I'm with you Manu, I've only seen Season one and up to the episode Zack gets his doctrate because Channel Seven TOOK BONES OFF AIR HOW COULD THEY DO THAT D: but yeah lol XD lmao. Zack's planet Sounds like a good place to be But, I want to clarify here, I only say that because if you look on his wikipedia page it says that the creator of the show has said that he probably does. I'm not trying to tell people what to think about the character or anything like that; and I'm also not trying to say how Eric is trying to portray him or anything. In the rest of this comment I am merely going to quote things that I have heard and describe why I personally think that they could be applicable. And this - from www.philly.com/dailynews/columnists/ellen_gray/20070131_Ellen_Gray___Boreanaz_says__Bones__is_not_procedural.html is cited as the reference. So yeah, that's the only reason that I mentioned that. Zack definitely seems to symptoms of aspergers in that he doesn't understand metaphors, he isn't good at reading body language/hints - although he does start to teach himself from a book in the second season, which is again like something someone with aspergers may do, he is incredibly smart in a certain area but seems completely naive in others. And so on. The only thing that Zack doesn't do that the person I know who has aspergers is throw violent tantrums - but I don't know if that's specific to aspergers LOL I think he just throws tantrums because he can. Hodgins even calls Zack an "idiot savant" in The Man On Death Row. I don't think he's saying anything by it, but that is proof that Zack at least acts like he has AS sometimes LOL [that's after he deciphers that the number isn't a telephone number and comes running in talking a mile a minute lmao. But yeah, I don't know whether or not he actually does have it or not, but he does ACT like he has it. Like, he's written as if he has it, and apparently the creator of the show has acknowledged that lol. But they never specifically say so on the show, which i like. lol, because then we can all form our own opinions, and none of us are wrong

See...One Never believe anything from Wiki. Anyone can put anything they want. it's not a reliable source.
Two I don't think he has aspergers
He's just not socially comfortable because he never has normal dealings with people. Look how quick he flew through school Thus he didn't have the time most people have to learn relationships with people.
It's basically saying that anyone who doesn't function well with people has aspergers if we call Zack having that.
When Zack was talking a mile a minute... Well... people do that when excited and I know i'd be excited if i just cracked an insane code.
Not everyone who doesn't have AS can read body language well. I know I don't . But I don't have AS.
Saying Zack has AS is saying anyone who isn't socially BRILLIANT has AS. He's just not socially comfortable and isn't terribly good with people.
Not AS.
I agree with him having AS about as much as the "Cam/Zack should hook up" thing...

Lol. I cited the reference to what wiki had on it. I'm not stupid, I know anyone can make wiki say whatever they want, but if you read I quoted an interveiw in which Emily Deschanel says - and I'll quote it again. "If you look at the character of Zack, played by Eric Millegan, he almost definitely has Asperger syndrome," So. While Wikipedia on its own isn't a reliable source, it normally cites where it got the information from - if it doesn't don't trust it. It cited where it got the info from, and I then cited wiki and the place that wiki got the info from. I didn't randomly see it on wikipedia and say Oh it must be true then.
I'm not saying that he does have it. I am saying that yes, he acts like he does and I am saying that I have read - In an interview with Emily Deschanel - that the creator of the show has said that he almost definitely has it.
And that isn't true either. I'm not saying "OMG ZACK HAS AS" I'm saying that I have heard that the creator said he has it and I am saying he acts like a person I know who has it.
When I said Zack came running in talking a mile a minute I wasn't saying that was what someone with AS would do. I was telling you what part of the episode I was talking about. Jack called him idiot savant in that scene because he had figured out that it wasn't a phone number - cracked the code, as you put it - without having any idea that it was actually a code.
You can disagree with it as much as you like, but that doesn't give you the right to act like I'm stupid for citing wikipedia - which I only did because it gave a reliable reference which I checked out first - and it doesn't give you the right to act like I'm stupid for even suggesting such a thing. I'm so sorry that I brought it up at all; I only did so because Emily Deschanel said that the creator of the show said it.
I never said that you had to agree with it, I never said that I am convince he has it, I said that I think that it is entirely possible that he does have it.
I'm sorry if I sound really angry right now because I'm honestly not and I'm not trying to be mean in any way, shape or form; but I do think that you could've just said something more along the lines of, "oh i didn't know that the creator had said that - he doesn't seem that way to me at all" rather than passing the whole thing off as something that I've randomly made up, or that some other random has randomly made up and posted on wikipedia. There was a reason I posted the quote from the interview and referenced the site as the site wikipedia got it's info from - so that things like this wouldn't happen.
I specifically said in my previous post that nothing has been said for sure which I like because we can all form our own opinions. But that means that we CAN all have our own opinions and you shouldn't act like the fact that I'm giving this idea some thought and credence is completely ludicrous.
I'm probably going to regret posting this, but oh well.
Just to reiterate though: I am not saying that he definitely is. I am quoting a reliable source when I say he could be. I am using my own personal experience with someone who has AS to say that I think that he does show many of the same behavoural patterns. I never said that you need to think he has AS. I never said that I believe that he has it, I said that I don't know whether or not he does but that I think it was possible. And I only posted all of this stuff in the first place because I thought it might interest you guys because I thought you might like to hear what the creator of the show has said about Zack as a character. I'm only posting this to explain myself, not to create any drama or anything like that.
And I'm sorry that I type so much, I talk a lot too and it just translates to the keyboard lmao XD

Lizzy don't worry, sometimes we all feel like "venting" something! I'm 100% sure that Kacy didn't mean any offence to you.... I found the same citation you were talking about on the "official companion book" of the series, so it's a good source I think. After all... it's not important if Zack has AS or not... WE JUST LOVE HIM AS HE IS... and because of the way he is Manu

I'm on here rather late, but I wanted to comment on the AS thing, and why I love Zack (that's right, like is not a strong enough word). Whether he's officially supposed to have it, I don't know, but I have AS and I really relate to him. I relate to him better than any character I've seen on television and I watch a lot of tv I am not as smart as Zack, but I do have the Aspie brain, if you will. I have a lot of trouble dealing with the outside world and I have trouble understanding body language, just like Zack. I also tend to think very literally and logically. I'm glad they didn't go into whether he has it, but I think it is a definite possibility. I love Zack because he's Zack For more reasoning, well I think Lizza just about explained it all. Zack, to me, is such a real character. Even though he is not outgoing, and we don't see that much about him, it is obvious there is more to him and I like how that is conveyed. I don't know if anyone besides Eric could do that, I mean portray the character how he is really meant to be portrayed and understand him the way he does. Zack could just be the genius geek guy who no one really cares about, but he has a vulnerability, something that makes him human and not perfect. That is why he is such a great character.

I think you have explained it very well SquintyOne! The reason why you like Zack! I agree...Eric portrays him in a great way...and the writers...up to yesterday treated him in a very intelligent way Pity they ruined it all at the end. About being here late...it doesn't matter....you're welcome here and we will keep talking about Zack for a long time... because we all love him ! manu
